IETF: Industrial Energy Transformation Fund – Phase 3

Industrial emissions account for around 18% of UK emissions. To reach the Net Zero target in 2050, industrial emissions need to fall by around 90% from today’s levels.

Industrial Energy Transformation Fund (IETF) launched Phase 3 of industrial grants on Monday 29 January 2024, with the closing date on Friday 19 April 2024, and aims to achieve the target by:

1. Reducing industrial energy demand so that less energy is used to perform the same tasks or produce the same results,
2. Reducing industrial emissions supporting the delivery of carbon budgets
3. Building and de-risk the market for decarbonisation technologies through supporting investment by early movers.

Eligibility

Businesses registered in the entire UK but with sites only in England, Wales or Northern Ireland are eligible to apply. The minimum eligible grant threshold for deployment projects for SMEs is £75,000. If your site is based in Scotland, you can apply for the Scottish Industrial Energy Transformation Fund (SIETF).

Industry type

Your business must operate an existing site which falls into one of the following SIC codes:

The IETF will provide grant funding towards the up-front costs of deploying an energy efficiency or a decarbonisation technology. An applicant must be able to demonstrate that costs are additional and necessary to achieving the energy or emissions savings.

Energy proposals

Energy efficiency proposals should reduce the energy consumed by industrial processes at the site level, attributing benefits to both the bill savings and any associated emissions savings.

Decarbonisation proposals

Decarbonisation proposals should reduce the emissions produced by industrial processes at the site level. While in some cases there may be an associated energy saving, this is not the key driver for the proposal and, in many cases, energy bills may in fact increase. Examples of eligible projects involve the electrification of industrial processes or retrofits and upgrades of industrial equipment including transformers reducing carbon emissions.

Eligible projects, among others, can involve the installation or upgrade of distribution transformers like Wilson e3 Ultra Low Loss Amorphous® Transformer. Wilson Transformers can be used for Energy Saving and Decarbonisation projects as they offer significant energy and carbon reduction.

Companies can submit their applications for both types of projects but may be awarded the grant only for one of them as energy efficiency and decarbonisation projects cannot be aggregated together.
