Wilson Power Solutions wins at the 2021 AEE Awards!
It gives us great pleasure to announce that we have been awarded the “Innovative Energy Project of the Year” for the Western Europe Region for our Ultra-Low Loss Transformers at the AEE Awards 2021.
The Association of Energy Engineers (AEE), was founded in 1977 by Albert Thumann and is a nonprofit professional society of over 18,000 members in more than 100 countries. The mission of AEE is “to promote the scientific and educational interests of those engaged in the energy industry and to foster action for Sustainable Development.”
This award recognises an innovative energy project (includes renewable and green ventures, and those making a significant impact on climate change) that has been in operation for at least 6 months and can be authenticated with the actual installation, operating costs and achievements.
Transformers are designed to operate for 30 years, but in many cases, they are kept in operation for more than 50 years. In the UK, the average age of a ground-mounted distribution transformer is 63 years (FOI Ofgem). We found that transformers are all too often ignored and completely overlooked as an energy-saving opportunity despite older models being vast consumers of energy.
Wilson Power Solutions prides itself on being ahead of the curve and providing innovative and sustainable energy solutions. In 2008, we became the first transformer manufacturer in the UK to address energy waste through distribution transformer losses. Seven years after this the EU commission regulated transformer losses (Tier 1, 2015). We were also the first company in the UK to introduce Super and Ultra Low Loss Transformers made of an amorphous metal core. This development has helped organisations across a range of market sectors reduce their energy waste and carbon emissions whilst also lowering their operating costs.
Metrics behind our Ultra-Low Loss Transformers (correct at the time of AEE Award nominations):
Length of Time Project Has Been Operational (Six Months Minimum Required): Since 2008 (13 years).
-
Size/Scope of project: Installation of over a thousand low loss transformers
-
Annual Energy Saved: 36,633,301 kWh.
-
Total Energy Saved: 1,098,999,030 kWh over 30 years of operations.
We would have loved to attend the 2021 AEE World Congress to collect the award in person but due to COVID, unfortunately, we will not be able to. We will be joining the award ceremony online where our Energy Policy & Marketing Manager, Ayah Alfawaris, is giving an acceptance speech.
We are delighted to be recognised for our innovation and for the hard work we’ve put in to advance net-zero and decarbonise the UK’s grid. In the coming years, we hope to further revolutionise the transformer industry while continuing to go above and beyond the EU Ecodesign regulations for transformer losses. Many thanks to the AEE family for this award!
