Voltage regulation is crucial on sites with voltage fluctuations to avoid failures and to reduce unnecessary energy losses. Numerous sites in the UK are supplied with higher than optimal voltage or are equipped with non-dispatchable renewable energy applications or motors which amplify under-voltage or over-voltage events. This increases energy wastage significantly. Wilson e4 comes with one of two voltage tapping options to reduce the site’s footprint and avoid further system losses while removing the need for additional plant maintenance.

De-Energised Tap Changer

The new Wilson e4 Ultimate Low Loss Amorphous® Transformer has been designed at a reduced secondary voltage (415V instead of 433V) and, in addition to the industry standard five tap options, Wilson e4 features an extended tapping setting of +7.5%. Wilson e4 transformers are equipped as standard with DeEnergised Tap Changers to allow easy adjustment to LV site voltage without the need for costly additional equipment. This is ideal for sites where there is no need to frequently change the voltage tapping, as it requires de-energising the transformer. The DETC switch can be turned manually to adjust the secondary voltage.

OLTC

On-Load Tap Changer

To provide a more responsive solution to voltage fluctuations, we are delighted to introduce the Wilson e4+ Ultimate Low Loss Amorphous® Transformer with a vacuum On-Load Tap Changer, which allows automatic voltage regulation without the need to de-energise the transformer. This OLTC has the capability of a 3-second gap between operations and can do up to 500,000 maintenance-free operations, allowing it to outlive the transformer. Being the smallest high-speed tap changer in the world, MR Ecotap VPD OLTC comes with fully customisable 9 or 17 tap positions, which ensure a constant secondary voltage despite irregular supply patterns, including random peaks and troughs.
